Wheelchair basketball is an adaptive sport played by people with disabilities. In some countries such as Canada, Australia and England, able-bodied athletes are allowed to compete alongside other athletes on mixed teams.
It is based on basketball with some adaptations to reflect the presence of the wheelchair. All teams which compete above a recreational level use a classification system to evaluate the functional abilities of players on a point scale.

The governing body of the sport in Great Britain is the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association. The Association employs a full-time development officer.
Information regarding the whereabouts of local clubs can be obtained from this website or the GBWBA Office, who can give help and advice to any individual or group wishing to develop their own clubs/teams. Arrangements can also be made through the office for a visit by a local club or coach to any college, school, club or group showing an interest in wheelchair basketball. In addition, coaching clinics, seminars, awareness and taster days, demonstrations and exhibitions can also be organized through the office.
